No one knows better than Emperor’s College faculty member and resident stroke specialist, Dr. Atsuki Maeda, DAOM, LAc, the tremendous ways in which acupuncture can help stroke patients. Maeda has seen it first-hand again and again in his 20 year career as an acupuncturist in Japan and the US. On one occasion, he even helped a nearly disabled stroke patient resume riding her bicycle after 3 months of regular acupuncture treatments. Not all recoveries are quite this dramatic, but there is growing body of evidence to suggest that acupuncture can help nearly all stroke patients in more ways than one.

Their discussion delves into ways in which acupuncture helps stroke patients, the Chinese medical system of integrating a multitude of Eastern and Western therapies, and the steps that are being taken to make acupuncture more widely available in the US.

About Dr. Atsuki Maeda, DAOM, LAc
Dr. Atsuki Maeda, DAOM, LAc is chief clinician at the Stroke and Dementia Care Clinic at Emperor’s College Acupuncture Clinic in Santa Monica, CA, and a faculty member in master’s degree in traditional Oriental medicine.
His education in the field of stroke acupuncture began in Japan and culminated with a master’s degree in Oriental medicine from Emperor’s College in 1993. Maeda earned his doctorate in acupuncture and Oriental medicine in 2013.
Maeda also maintains a private practice in Torrance, California.
