2011 brought many exciting developments to Emperor’s College. It goes to show how a bit of good timing and A LOT of hard work can pay off in dividends. Thank you to the faculty, staff, students, alumni, patients and friends of Emperor’s College who have made this year so very special.
Specialized Acupuncture Protocols for Stroke Survivors
With the help of stroke specialist Atsuki Maeda, Emperor’s College Acupuncture Clinic launched the Stroke Rehabilitation and Dementia Care Clinic in June 2011 to resounding success. Local and national media have taken interest in our pioneering work with stroke survivors, and we are now treating patients from around the country. Atsuki Maeda, who was trained under the world’s leading authority in acupuncture stroke protocols, Dr. Shi Xue Min, and his team at Tianjin University, China, has been waiting for an opportunity to be involved in a specialized clinic for stroke patients for over 15 years.
We are so excited to have been able to team with Maeda and make this dream a reality, for the field of Oriental medicine as well as the many patients who will benefit.
The Honorable Dr. Shi Xue Min Pays a Visit
We had the privilege of working directly with Dr. Shi Xue Min, inviting him to Los Angeles for a 2-day professional development seminar for clinicians and students about stroke acupuncture. The seminar, held at Loyola Marymount University, attracted over 200 excited attendees from across the country for a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from one of China’s most celebrated stroke experts.
We look forward to welcoming Dr. Shi Xue Min to Los Angeles again next year.
DAOM Program Leads the Way
The doctoral program (DAOM program) at Emperor’s College attracted its largest incoming class and reached its maximum capacity of 20 fellows this year, due in large part to the exciting curriculum redevelopment led by Dr. David Migocki, Doctoral Program Dean.
The new DAOM curriculum, focusing on complex internal medicine and orthopedic conditions, boasts intensive medical specialty modules taught on three-month rotations by some of the most highly credentialed and experienced faculty in the field. Pilot research studies also take center stage in the new DAOM curriculum, with quarterly research classes guiding fellows through every stage of the research process, culminating in a publishable capstone project.
This new curriculum represents the future of DAOM programs in the United States, and we are thrilled to be leading the way.
Partnership with the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center
In January 2011, we formed a partnership with the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California. The partnership provides interns in the master’s program with the unique opportunity to complete clinical training in a groundbreaking integrative oncology center, and to help usher in a new era of cancer care.
Impressive California Board Scores
Emperor’s College graduates demonstrated impressive performances on the California licensing boards (CALE), with a pass rate of 82.5% for first-time test takers in 2011. These excellent statistics maintain Emperor’s College’s position as one of the top acupuncture schools in the nation.
We congratulate our graduates on their commitment to excellence and passion for being the best clinicians they can be, and many thanks to our outstanding faculty members for their hard work in training our graduates!
Helping Communities in Need
As part of our ongoing commitment to the community, Emperor’s College teamed with Acupuncturists Without Borders and hosted a weekend training seminar on disaster relief acupuncture protocols for nearly 50 clinicians. AWB executive director Diana Fried, LAc, Dipl. Ac., taught participants the skills and knowledge needed for working with severely traumatized communities and individuals.
It’s a privilege to collaborate with such an altruistic non-profit organization as AWB, as their acupuncture treatments have transformed the lives of many survivors of traumatic events such as the Haitian earthquake victims.
